چکیده

This paper reports different strategies for electrical dispersion compensation of optical single sideband transmission systems. We investigate and compare the mitigation of the chromatic dispersion impairment using dispersive microstrip lines, Butterworth filters, and hybrid schemes employing an adaptive filter. Simulation results are presented at 10 Gbit/s, proving transmission over 600km of dispersive fiber employing feasible stand alone solutions, and without recurring to the use of optical dispersion compensation.

Demonstration of Electrical Dispersion Compensation of Single Sideband Optical Transmission

We describe a demonstration of electrical chromatic dispersion compensation of 10 Gb/s single sideband optical signals. Eye-opening and bit error rates of less than 10 were achieved after compensation of -2040 ps/nm, equivalent to 120km of non-dispersion-shifted fibre and beyond the dispersion limit for 10Gb/s. A passive sideband filter was used to produce the single sideband signal, a techniqu...

Cost-Effective Transmission Concept for LAN/MAN/SAN Applications

We demonstrate error-free 4×10 Gbit/s 1310 nm DWDM simplified-design transmission over 200 km of standard single mode fibre without any dispersion compensation using SOAs. Introduction Recently, optical communication systems operating at multi-Gbit/s, such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet are becoming increasingly important in local area networks (LANs), metropolitan area networks (MANs) and storage are ...

Effect of Nonlinear Phase Variation in Optical Millimetre Wave Radio over Fibre Systems

In this paper, we propose an optical millimetre wave radio-over-fibre (mm-wave RoF) system that uses a dual drive Mach Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM), which is biased at the maximum transmission biasing point, to generate an optical double sideband-suppressed carrier. The input to the DD-MZM are binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-phase shift keying (8-PSK) and...

DSP based Chromatic Dispersion Equalization and Carrier Phase Estimation in High Speed Coherent Optical Transmission Systems

Coherent detection employing multilevel modulation formats has become one of the most promising technologies for next generation high speed transmission systems due to the high power and spectral efficiencies. Using the powerful digital signal processing (DSP), coherent optical receivers allow the significant equalization of chromatic dispersion (CD), polarization mode dispersion (PMD), phase n...

1700 ps = nm tunable dispersion compensation for 10 Gbit = s RZ lightwave transmission

Introduction: Tunable dispersion compensation is becoming inevitable for fibre-optic communication systems. Important applications include replacing conventional dispersion compensating fibres (DCFs) in long-haul transmissions, compensating residual dispersion after the DCF to meet the tight dispersion tolerances required in 40 Gbit=s and above based networks, and compensating thermallyinduced ...
